Baby-proofing the House - Safety at Hand

Exploration at its best! Of course, the baby doesn`t understand anything it sees, can`t stand longer than a minute on its feet, grabs everything (no matter how gross) and tastes anything that fits into its mouth, yet gets easily excited, keeps smiling and is constantly on the move. No matter how intriguing the exploration is, for toddler as well as the parents, it is a dangerous affair and since babies can`t keep be watched 24x7, parents should do their bit to make the inspection free from risk.

Safety latches on the drawers is the best method for keeping the baby far from clasping their fingers. Keep all small objects in these drawers. Be more heedful of the lower cabinets in kitchens and bathrooms as these are always stuffed with home cleaning liquids and appliances. Keeping these cabinets locked will save the baby from any mishap.

When it comes to choosing a safety latch for the cabinets, one must install the ones that are durable and convenient to lock/open. It`s important to consider the type of latch as different cabinets require certain kinds of latches. Also choose latches that neither deteriorate for a long time nor damage the cabinets. Another thing to pay attention to is uncovered electrical sockets. One can simply install swivel covers which automatically moves back on the plug after every use in order to keep risks away.

More worries flare up just when the baby starts to pull himself up. Mounting brackets are the way to go. Furniture and appliances should be anchored to wall so when he pulls him up or tries to climb, there is no risk of the furniture falling over him. Additionally, padded bumpers can be used around the sharp edges of tables and other furniture to escape the chances of any serious injury.

Holding a toddler off the stairs is certainly a daunting task and a safety gate is the best bet for that. Apart from that, one can use it to restrict entry into a room filled with stuff that is dangerous for the baby. A safety gate is conveniently moved by an adult but can`t be pushed away by a toddler. Besides these, parents should become habitual to taking care of certain things on a regular basis:

Lighters and matches should always be out of  baby’s reach plus ensuring that lighted candles are placed where the baby can` reach or knock them over. If possible, install a fire extinguisher in the home.

All electrical items such as hair dryers, irons, curling irons, electric shavers, etc. are safely placed at top shelves.

Medications, detergents, floor cleaners and other poisonous things should be stored in a cabinet that locks.

All small objects lying around the house should be removed every day.

Accidents are not usual in the household, they can occur occasionally and it`s best for parents to baby-proof their house so as to keep their curious explorers out of any kind of danger. Baby-proofing not only keeps troubles away from the baby, but also gives parents the confidence to buck up their toddlers to follow through their curious investigation.
