Tips to lower your wedding budget.

Wedding dresses

  • Choose simpler dresses. You get very good outfits and saris with less of zari and handwork on them that are elegant and not so expensive. Besides you can always 'dress up' your dress with lovely accessories.

  • While the bride goes in for whatever appeals to her, the rest of the bridal party can go in for simpler attire. After all, we are not competing with the bride, are we? This day is for her    let her revel in it.

  • If all the clothes for the entire wedding party are bought at the same place, you can avail of a substantial discount on your bill. Get alterations done free of charge.

Flowers:

  • Seasonal flowers always cost less than rare exotic flowers. Remember these blooms wither easily. The price is even lower if you settle for locally available flowers.

  • Concentrate your floral arrangements on the place where they get the most attention. The wedding stage or altar will be the cynosure of all eyes and will need a lot of decoration. But a lot of other places that are decorated, rarely get more than a fleeting glance. How often do you go around admiring the decorations at a wedding? Take them for granted, don't you? Cut down your budget by reducing the amount of flowers you use.

  • If you want to decorate a large area, use potted plants and shrubs. They are less expensive and look very nice. Balloons look very festive but don't cost much.

  • Try to buy your flowers at the wholesale market.

Photography :

  • Ask an experienced friend or relative to do your photography for you.

  • Some people just do a video and develop stills from them.

Catering:

  • Keep the menu simple. Fancy fare costs a lot more. Tasty but simple food suits most palates. Costs less too.

  • Cut down your guest list. There really is no need to invite every single person you know. Restrict your invites to the near, dear and peer.

  • Look around for the best deal that you can get. Nothing works like a bit of brazen haggling.

Transport:

  • Try to borrow cars rather then hire them. It shouldn't be a problem if you pay for the gas.

  • Use obliging friends or relatives to drive people around. A few young ones would certainly oblige.

Invitation cards:

  • Don't print very many extra cards. You must have a good idea about your guest list. How many more could you possibly include in your list?

  • Decorative envelopes. An unnecessary expense. People don't really pay too much attention to them. Simple envelopes cost less and do the same job. Remember, finally people are going to throw it away.

  • Keep your card simple, yet elegant. Remember crass isn't class.

  • Black print cost less than colours. And gets the message across just as effectively.
