Do's and don't when you plan a wedding

A few important do's and don't when you are planning a wedding.

  • Do send out the invitation well in time. People living out of town need at least 3 weeks to make arrangements to come to the wedding.

  • Do not mention or take dowry in any way. It's in extremely bad taste.

  • Don't impress people with the amount of money you have spent on them. Take the price tags off the gifts.

  • Do make it a point to talk to each guest personally. Even if it is only for a minute or two. Or allocate this important duty to someone else.

  • Don't procrastinate organising your wedding. Set the ball rolling as soon as the date is set.

  • Do give yourself plenty of time to plan. There are bound to be hitches and upsets. Allot adequate time to deal with things.

  • Don't make unilateral decisions regarding the wedding. Consult the bride/groom's party as well.

  • Do cut down your gust list. Weddings are expensive. You can't invite everyone you know to your wedding.

  • Don't worry too much about public opinion. Conduct the wedding the way you want it. You can't please everyone.

  • Do have a realistic budget. Don't lose track of your expenses.

  • Do welcome your guests courteously. At Indian weddings, the art of welcoming elders to the occasions takes on immense significance. It's a lot to do with respecting them.
