He's just bought a rock that he likes. Um. You've got to wear it but you're not quite sure you like it as much. What to do if you don't like your engagement ring If the ring is not to your liking, then we suggest you 'fess up- tell your man. Do not, however, be crass and ask him to exchange the ring just because you want a bigger or showier stone. Remember, engagement rings are meant to be tokens of love, not a financial measure of your worth to him. Who'd marry an indigent artist in the making then?!!!
Give the ring the benefit of the doubt. Wait a fortnight to see if it grows on you and then be gentle but honest. Be careful how you phrase it, though, as this might ignite a stand off! What to do if you call off your engagement If you call off your engagement, it's good form to return the ring. This holds especially if he gave you his grandmother's emerald ring or the diamond and ruby family heirloom. If, however he is the one who broke off the engagement, then you are not obliged to return the ring. A word of advice Keeping an engagement ring after you broke off is not a good idea. It carries with it negative associations and is quite simply an unpleasant reminder of your break up. So, get rid of it. You could sell it and treat yourself to a great holiday in Goa or donate the money to a charity.
