"Here comes the bride.."

It is a bridal procession in a little church in Scotland. The Congregation is waiting with bated breath. This wedding is special. It is different in so many beautiful ways. It is also different simply because " We were told by the minister that it was the biggest, longest, and the only Indian wedding to have been held in that church!!"

Yes. An Indian wedding. The bride walks down the aisle in an ivory silk saree - straight from the looms of Kanchipuram, the silk town of South India. The bridesmaids come smiling in their rich turquoise "ghagra cholis" that were made to order in Chennai. The bride's family members are in sarees and salwars. There is music from a bamboo flute.

What's unusual, you ask? Nothing at all - save the fact that this is a Scottish couple who is taking the vows! When Dr.Gordon N. Dutton decided to take Dr. Kirsteen Thomson for his bride, little did he know that beneath the Scottish exterior, lay a heart that grew up in India. No - grew into India. Kudos to Dr.Dutton - he went along with Kirsteen's elaborate plans for an "Indian " wedding.

Shopping in Chennai, the clothes, the accessories - even the wedding card and order of service!

Lilting music of the bamboo flute, Mehendi - " Prashansa hoye prabhu yishu ki, kitna mahaan , kitna mahaan .. " Yes. A hymn in Hindi, too.

Theirs is a marriage of mature minds and hearts that sing from the soul.

"Nor clan, nor clime, nor circumstance
Can keep from us this gift of Grace.."
