Every Indian wedding has a series of little ceremonies that precede it. The number of ceremonies would depend on the community and family preferences.
But these ceremonies need a lot of attention too. Here is a small checklist of the details that need to be addressed.
Venue. Where is the function to be held? Will it be right at home, or do you need to book a hall or a room somewhere?
Date. Fix the date early on so you can let the invitees know where and when they're expected to share the festivities with you.
Time. The timing is crucial. Check with your priests for an auspicious time if need be.
Groom's clothes. Are they decided on? And collected from the tailor or the retail store?
Bride's attire. A bride's attire is always more complicated than the others. Extra care should be paid to it.
Rituals. What are the rituals this particular ceremony will include? Have you all the things ready for it? Have you checked with a priest on how best to go about it?
Catering. Will a meal be a part of the function? Most Indian ceremonies include the feeding of the guests.
Transport. How will people get to the venue? How many people are you responsible for? Have you made the necessary arrangements for them all?
Decorations. Can you, along with some familial help, handle the decorations on your own? Or would you be using professional help?
Most important of all don't forget to enjoy yourself.
