Enlighten yourself on the Rajapalayam breed.
These dogs were originally bred several centuries ago for hunting wild animals and accompanied the local chieftain on such expeditions.
An excellent watchdog, its thin frame provides enormous strength and stamina and its body is suited to Indian climatic conditions. Normally white in colour, these dogs grow to a height of 27 to 30 inches.
If you intend to bring home a Rajapalayam pup, remember that it requires a lot of space, being a hound.
It also needs a lot of attention and plenty of exercise. So be sure to spend more time with it.
While a Rajapalayam is friendly and affectionate with the family it is quite the opposite with strangers. This means that a separate place for this dog is a must.
This breed has come a long way from its hunting days and is today used as a watch dog in industrial complexes, factories and establishments not only in India but in the Gulf as well.
The sad story is that this wonderful breed has been relegated to the background with the import of foreign breeds like Alsations and Doberman. If any of you intend raising a watchdog, go in for our own Indian Rajapalayam.
