  • Don't feed your cat too much liver. Restrict it to twice a week. Or it can lead to spinal damage.

  • It's easier to medicate dogs than cats. Unlike dogs, cats react adversely to very many drugs. Check with your vet on every drug you give them.

  • Cats often dribble when they have sores in their mouths or teeth.

  • Use a slick brush to groom your cat. They're more effective than combs in removing dead hair and preventing knots. Brushes are more flexible than combs.

  • Catfights are bad news. Besides the physical injuries, they can also result in leukaemia. It's better to keep your cat indoors at night.

  • Cats constantly wash themselves. If they have fleas, it could result in the cat getting tapeworms. And they would need to be de-wormed. Effective flea control is needed.

  • White cats are prone to skin cancer. Especially in the ear area. Keep them out of the sun as much as possible.

Doggy hints

  • It is vital to give dogs at least ten minutes of mental training every day. They should be trained to obey your commands.

  • Dogs are prone to ear wax build up and ear problems. Have this checked regularly by your vet.

  • Don't use people's soaps on dogs. Their skins could get allergic to it.

  • De-worm your dog every quarter. Puppies are prone to tapeworm, hookworm and ringworms.

  • Don't let your dog get overweight. Dogs should get sufficient exercise to work off their calories. Lack of exercise could make them bad tempered too.
