Unusual pets are one thing. But inappropriate pets are another. They could be a source of great danger and worry for the family.
It should be remembered that wild and exotic animals only belong to their natural habitat. If removed from there, the only other place for them is a zoo or a protected wild park.
Animals that people normally have for pets are domesticated animals. From early times, these animals have been bred by people to live a domesticated life. It is a life that suits these animals. They are protected and fed well. They are comfortable living amongst humans. Even if left to themselves, they will make their way to the human settlements.
Wild animals can be trained. But they can never be domesticated. It doesn`t come naturally to them. They can only suppress their natural instincts for a period of time. Sooner or later, the wild instincts will come to the fore.
When you choose to have a wild animal like a snake, little alligators or smaller wild cats as family pets, it is like inviting trouble and heartache. On very many occasions, such animals have killed a member of the family they have lived with. And can one really blame the animal? It is just working on its instinct. A wild animal can rarely feel the instinct of love, loyalty or gratitude.
If a wild cat even sniffs at blood, its first instinct is to attack. Wild animals are not capable of rationalising this instinct. They cannot think, " I don`t need to kill since I am no longer living in the wild. Besides, this person is my master and provider. I owe him better behaviour than this."
A snake will eventually grow to its full size and become a potential killer. Should we be willing to risk our safety just for the dubious thrill of having an exotic pet?
Why not just help around in the local zoo then?
