IN this age of fashion consciousness, being fashionable is the thing to be. So, those of you Indian women who are aspiring to do some cutting and stitching at home, here are some handy tips-
Never use your tailoring scissors for cutting any material other than cloth. This will keep them sharp longer.
To sharpen your scissors cut a piece of foil a number of times.
Always wash new material before stitching. This will take care of any shrinkage.
If a material bleeds colour, soak it in a solution of common salt and water overnight.
Store needles and pins in a bar of soap. This will keep them from rusting.
To thread needles more easily, put nail polish at the end of the thread.
If your needles and pins have fallen on the floor, use a magnet to collect them.
When removing stitches from a dark cloth, use a piece of white chalk to draw a line on the stitches.
When tracing designs on the fabrics lay them on sandpaper. This will help to keep the material in place.
Organise all your sewing material in one box.
