There are several little ideas that double up as great solutions to the many tiny little pin pricks of life. It is good to know about them, you know....

Cold remedy : For temporary relief from coughs and to cut down on the phlegm due to a cold, add half a fresh lime to a cup of boiling water, then sweeten to taste with sugar or honey. Drink it up.

The ABCs of learning: Teach your child the alphabet, by getting some letter magnets for your refrigerator door. Beginning with A, put a new letter on the fridge each day, then ask your child to look for that letter in books, on food containers, etc. In 10 weeks your child will be familiar with all the letters of the alphabet.

Saving face: To clear up a blemish, mix one tablespoon each of lemon juice and cornstarch, provided you're not allergic to either of them. Pat the paste onto the blemish and let dry. Wash your face as usual.

Better brownies: Making brownies for the kids? Melt a few of their favourite candy bars, along with a splash of milk. Use the melted chocolate to top the brownies. Delicious!

For openers: Keep your nail polish bottles easy to open by putting petroleum jelly inside the cover and on the grooves of the bottle.

Sugar, sugar: To keep marshmallows from sticking together in the bag, throw a little powdered sugar into the bag and mix.
