Contrary to popular belief, one can grow vegetable gardens just about anywhere. Even in a little flat in a crowded city. People can have regular vegetable gardens on the terrace of their houses and flats.

Why the rooftop? Why not? Most people live in flats. Beside even if they do have ground space for vegetation, they could use it to plant trees all around and thus help afforestation. And vegetables do tend grow very well on the rooftop.

What's more, one doesn't need hi-tech expensive methods. The simplest, cheapest methods are very effective.

All one needs are the time and the desire for a roof top garden. Imagine a private oasis above dust and the noise of the city! Imagine the pleasure of watching the sunset from your own terrace garden!

However, there are some rules to be followed. Adequate precaution needs to be taken to prevent the walls from cracking or the roofs leaking.

Terrace gardens could provide one with a stimulating hobby. Healthy vegetables can be grown at home without the use of chemicals.

Creepers like pumpkins and gourds are very attractive as well. The add an exotic look to the terrace. Racks can also be used to accommodate the plants and to arrange them artistically. A bare terrace could be altered into a little green retreat. Sounds good, doesn't it?

Besides it gives you the choice of organically grown food.
It is well known that chemical fertilisers change the structure of the soil and eliminate soil organisms which are vital in maintaining soil quality.

Organic fertilisers improve the soil and leave no toxic side effects either on the soil or the plants. Household wastes can be recycled into organic fertilisers. Food wastes can be turned into odourless manure in compost heaps.

Besides, gardening helps in rejuvenating a tired mind and body.
