I'm a workingwoman - with little time to call my own. Moving into my own apartment - took enough time and trouble. I couldn't think of decorating it as well - it just had to be the way it was. I couldn't possibly let it bother me now.
But life has a way of making things happen. When you've moved into a modest little apartment, your windows look out on to the windows of other modest little apartments - and vice versa. Unless I chose to keep all my windows closed - and eventually suffocate - I had to something about getting more privacy. It wasn't that my neighbours were inquisitive or curious - but all the same.. they seemed to pretty much know what was happening at my home.
Just curtains - I told myself. And that's it. I'm not going to torture myself with home decor now. I beamed with pride at the two mattresses on the floor of a living room. A couple of cushions were artfully placed - to create an ethnic divan like look. A portable TV stood on the floor in the far corner. Now curtains would complete the picture. I couldn't help but smirk - when I thought of the fuss, time and effort put in by some people to do up their houses!
I called in the furnisher round the corner - on a Saturday evening. How much curtain material would I need to buy? And how soon could he get them done for me? Mani seemed a little dazed when he looked around. He wandered into the only bedroom and eyed the stack of files and books that were placed carelessly on the floor. "Where do you sleep?" I grinned and pointed to the mattresses in the living room. He drew in a deep breath and started measuring the windows.
He didn't stop with that. He measured the mattress - and the cushions too. He went back to the bedroom - and eyed the empty floor space and mumbled to himself.
I bought him the material he needed. Needless to say - I went in for a monochromatic theme - it was less trouble. The baby pink material had a lovely texture and I knew it would make a huge difference to my home.
Mani outdid himself. I expected the utilitarian - but he gave me beautiful. I was glad I hadn't economised on the quality of the material. Even the divan - looked good with its new cover and the cushions all dressed up. A new mattress adorned the bedroom - also in baby pink!
I enjoyed seeing my house look good. Busy as I was, I gradually found time to do up the other rooms as well - in my simplistic style. It evolved slowly and not very steadily. A few attractive pieces of pottery were artfully placed here and there. Then came the potted plants in the balcony.
I really don't know how much I'll be able to do with my tight time schedule. If and when the inclination hits, I might indulge - if not I'll be happy with what I've done. After all - it's much more than I ever really planned.

Orange is suppose to be a warm color. painting one side of a living room with orange would energise you and it wud be an excellent contrast for your wooden furniture-be it any color.
