People consider HIV/AIDS Testing for many reasons.
To know whether they are infected with HIV
To be alert of your medical care to prevent delay
To find out if you are infected or not
To help your partner from infection and avoid infecting them
To assess the safety of your child
To know whether you are infected with HIV or not two tests are required to look out for antibodies: the ELISA or enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and Western Blot test.
The first test is the ELISA test. The ELISA test detects the antibodies for HIV. How do you know that the test has come out accurate? Two terms describe the accuracy of the test- sensitivity and specificity. The ELISA is almost 99.9% sensitive and accurate and there is no chance that it could produce a negative result. If the ELISA shows any small number of false-positive results the Western Blot is conducted. The Western Blot further confirms whether the test is negative or positive. To rule out HIV/AIDS you should check your viral load and CD4 cells counted regularly. These tests measure how HIV is affecting your body if you are affected.
HIV/AIDS Testing also includes Confidential HIV Testing by which anyone who has been tested positive his name would be recorded and confidentially reported to the local health authority. Laws are there to protect against disclosure of information. Anonymous Testing facility is not available in many countries and states. Instead of name you will be known by a unique identifier code. Home Collection Kit Testing is another form of testing available to the people. It is a home test approved by the Food and Drug Administration in US. The kit can be purchased from any store and tested by the individual.
HIV/AIDs Research has found a new way of HIV/AIDS testing procedure, the Saliva Testing instead of blood tests. Saliva test are expensive available through private doctor’s offices and not yet through home tests. It has not yet been proven about its accuracy.
