Female Condoms to Prevent HIV / AIDS is a thin sheath or pouch worn by a woman during sex. Just like the condoms for men this is used as a preventive measure from pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) including HIV. The effective female Condoms to Prevent HIV / AIDS has been available in Europe since 1992. It is available in many countries, at lest ion limited quantities throughout the world. The brand of female Condoms to Prevent HIV / AIDS include names like Reality, Femidom, Dominique, Femy, Myfemy, Protectiv and Care.

In 2005 the makers of the FC female Condoms to Prevent HIV / AIDS announced a new product called FC2. This has the same design as the original version but is made of nitrile, which may make it cheaper to produce. The FC2 began large-scale production in 2007. The VA w.o.w female Condoms to Prevent HIV / AIDS has been distributed as a part of HIV preventive efforts in South Africa since 2004. This has been found in Brazil more recently. Just like the male condoms this is made of latex. The benefits of female Condoms to Prevent HIV / AIDS are :

To bring an opportunity for women to share the responsibility for the condoms with their partners.

In case the male partner refuses to use a condom then she can use one herself.

Protect against most STDs and pregnancy if used correctly.

These condoms can be inserted upto 8 hours before intercourse so as not to interfere with the moment.

They are not likely to cause an allergic reaction. WHO and UNAIDS are encouraging wider access to the female condom as a method of preventing both pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. Many governments and non-governmental organisations provide female condoms for free or at subsidised prices as part of their HIV prevention and family planning programmes.
