At the turn of the millennium about 34 million people worldwide are living with HIV or AIDS while 24 million of them in sub-Saharan Africa only. In the year 2006 alone 2.6 million people died of AIDS, the highest rate since the start of the epidemic. Majority of people have false beliefs about that HIV-AIDS like it mainly infect people who are gay or those who are drug abusers. But is one of the greatest myths about HIV-AIDS. Heterosexual intercourse is the major mode of (HIV) transmission worldwide. But medication for HIV/AIDS is pretty costly and till recent years there were not generic medication for HIV/AIDS. But recently first generic HIV medication has been patented.


This first generic HIV Medication for cure of AIDS has brought a ray of hope to millions of people suffering from AIDS. Inspite of the huge development of human medical science there is currently no known cure of HIV/AIDS. However there are treatments for AIDS and HIV which often help to decelerate the virus` progression. But medication for HIV is very costly and is often affordable by people of sub Saharan African where AIDS has become like an epidemic. But the Food and Drug Administration has approved the first generic form of antiretroviral medication to treat HIV. This first generic medication for HIV is expected to be much cheaper than other existent HIV drugs.

The first generic HIV medication has been patented by Barr Laboratories. This generic didanosine (ddI), a once a day therapy to treat HIV has gained considerable media coverage as the first generic HIV medication. The generic formulation of didanosine delayed release capsules will be available in the US and in foreign countries in 200mg, 250mg and 400mg dosages for treatment of HIV. Barr Laboratories has immediate plans to launch this generic medication for HIV/AIDS as soon as possible.
