Angiotensin II Receptor Antagonists

Spreading like epidemic, High Blood Pressure is a serious malady of the contemporary world. In the medical terminology, High Blood Pressure is known as Hypertension. Mainly arising due to unhealthy lifestyle, or even due to some hereditary nature, the disease can be curbed by adopting a healthier lifestyle. However with medical sciences discovering a host of High Blood Pressure Medicines, there are one or more remedies for the disease. Resulting in elevated systolic pressure, Hypertension could be either Primary or Secondary. Whatever be the nature of the disease, it is important to take necessary steps to put a check to this with proper medical intervention. One such important group of drugs is the Angiotensin II Receptor Antagonists. Angiotensin II receptor antagonists can also be termed Angiotensin receptor blockers . This group of drugs modulate the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and they are extremely effective in the treatment of High Blood Pressure, congestive heart failure and diabetic nephropathy which is nothing but damage of kidney due to diabetes. Angiotensin II receptor antagonists drugs differ in their potencies or in the lay man`s term, there are more than one strength of the drug. Depending on the seriousness of the disease or rather the count of Blood Pressure, Angiotensin II receptor antagonists medicines are given in different dosage and different strength. Angiotensin II receptor antagonists are mainly used for the treatment of High Blood Pressure, typically for patients who are intolerant to ACE inhibitor therapy. Though most of the Angiotensin II receptor antagonists drugs are well-tolerated, there are some fall out side effects of the medicines. The side effects of Angiotensin II receptor antagonists include dizziness, headache, rash, diarrhea, dyspepsia, abnormal liver function , insomnia, back pain or even congestion in the nasal tract.
