Atenolol is one of the most essential drug used to combat hypertension, chest pain, and anxiety disorders. Moreover, after cardiac arrests Atenolol can be life saving as this regulates the heart rates. It is tested by medical experts and proved to be one of the best medicine for high blood pressure. Atenolol is a part of the Alpha Blockers group, also known as beta-adrenergic blocking agents in medical terminology. The drug by reducing heart workload thereby minimizes the chances of life risk from heart attacks. However, one should remember that these drugs are very sensitive and should be consumed only as per physician`s advice. There are several side effects of the drug some of which are minor disorders like anxiety, diarrhea, constipation, insomnia, dry skin, dryness of eyes and mouth, regular headaches, nausea, and fatigue. However, patients under continuous dosages of Atenolol might face decreased sexual ability and nervous problems as well. But these minor side effects gets over as the person adjusts with the drug. Moreover there are also many ways to get relieved from these problems, as for instance, there are many artificial tear drops available in the markets to get over eye dryness. At times, there can be major side effects of the drug including breathing problems, frozen hands or feet, dizziness, hair loss, hallucinations, mental depression, skin rash, and unusual bleeding or bruising. Atenolol at times might also react with insulin or oral antidiabetic agents leading to changes in blood sugar levels. To get the best results every dose of Atenolol must be taken at the same period of time every day and none of the scheduled doses of the medicine should be doubled, as this can be fatal for the patients. The Atenolol is stored at cool, dry place, but should not be kept in freezer. One can take the medicine along with the meals or after meals or even without having food.
