The fruit of the sunflower, Helianthus annuus is the Sunflower Seeds as we know it. The term ‘sunflower seed’ is actually a misnomer when applied to the seed in its pericarp i.e. the hull. Only when the seed is dehulled, the edible remainder is called the sunflower kernel.
