Sunflower Seeds

The fruit of the sunflower, Helianthus annuus is the Sunflower Seeds as we know it. The term sunflower seed is actually a misnomer when applied to the seed in its pericarp i.e. the hull. Only when the seed is dehulled, the edible remainder is called the sunflower kernel. The Sunflower Seeds are usually classified by the pattern on their husks when they are used for commercial purposes. The seeds are pressed into sunflower oil and are thus sometimes referred to as oilseed sunflower crops. The Sunflower Seeds are commonly a Healthy Eating snack than part of a meal. While eating the Sunflower Seeds is used as garnishes or ingredients in various recipes and besides the seeds can also be sprouted and eaten in salads. In some countries of the world, the Sunflower Seeds can be bought freshly roasted in shops and markets and are a common stadium food. The Nutrients found in the Sunflower Seeds can be easily metabolized by the body, giving energy and helping build tissues. In modern societies, the sunflower oil is said to be one of the most popular oils in the world and it may be used by processing it into polyunsaturated margarines. Having a Healthy Eating Habit is very essential to stay in the best of health, and the Sunflower Seeds have lots of good in it that helps the body. After extracting the oil from the Sunflower Seeds, the seed cake can be further used as it is rich in proteins. Most of all the Sunflower Seeds are one of the main sources of Vitamins, which the human body need in plenty. Besides, the Sunflower Seeds are also an excellent source of dietary fiber, protein, essential fatty acids, minerals such as magnesium, iron, phosphorus, selenium and zinc and off course various Vitamin Es and Vitamin Bs. The Sunflower Seeds are also rich in cholesterol-lowering phytosterols and are thus a good source of calories.
