The Date Palm is a palm tree, extensively cultivated for its edible fruit, the Date. This drupe like fruits are oval-cylindrical, 3–7 cm long, and 2–3 cm diameter, and when unripe, range from bright red to bright yellow in color, depending on their variety. Usually the Dates contain a single seed about 2–2.5 cm long and 6–8 mm thick and the type of fruit depends on the glucose, fructose and sucrose content. A proper Healthy Eating diet must contain Dates in its various forms and recipes. Dates which are dry or soft can be eaten out-of-hand, or may be seeded and stuffed with fillings such as almonds, walnuts, candied orange and lemon peel, and marzipan.

Recently people are also coming up with chocolate-covered Dates and products such as sparkling date juice. The young date leaves are cooked and eaten as a vegetable with all its nutritional values. Rich in various Vitamins and minerals, Dates also have high tannin content and are used medicinally as a detersive, i.e., having a cleansing power and astringent in intestinal troubles. Dates may also be administered for sore throat, colds, bronchial catarrh, and taken to relieve fever and number of other complaints as an infusion, decoction, syrup, or paste.
Modern science have already proved that Dates form a part of a healthy diet with their content of sugar, fat and proteins, as well as important vitamins. They are also rich in natural fibers and are effective in preventing abdominal cancer. Surpassing all other fruits in the sheer variety of their constituents, the Dates also contain oil, calcium, sulphur, iron, potassium, phosphorous, manganese, copper and magnesium. Basically, the Dates satisfies the minimum requirements of a balanced and healthy diet. The Healthy Eating Habit of person will be fulfilled with Dates rich in several vitamins like A and B and certain important protein, making it a perfectly balanced food.
