Ever since the emergence of Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess of love from the sea on a giant oyster shell, consumption of Oysters have been tagged as aphrodisiac. For all those who simply cannot avoid sea food delicacies particularly Oysters, be informed that you are doing a good job by consuming them as it is beneficial and a source of good health too. The medicinal value of the Oysters is amazing and unbelievable. Facts about Oysters:
The most common Oysters are the Bivalve Mollusks which mostly lives in the marine or brackish waters. The shells of such Oysters are made of two usually highly calcified valves surrounding the soft body. Many of the Oysters that belong to the Oyster group are considered exquisite seafood whether raw or cooked. However it is important to mention that among the several types of Oysters, the pearl Oysters are not eaten and these are mainly related with pearls being formed inside. Edible Oysters are in fact not capable for making gem-quality pearls. Oysters have been important foodstuff specially in the coastal areas for a long time. Extensive fishing and diseases caused by environmental pollution have sharply decreased the supplies, though it still remains one of the popular treat. Nutritional value of Oysters:
Delicious to eat, Oysters are a natural mineral resource having nutrients like Calcium, Copper and Iron. Also these are rich in Iodine along with being low in cholesterol and having high Zinc content, the latter being very important in strengthening the immune system of the body. Considered an exotic sea food, Oysters are rich in Zinc which is required for sex hormones production.
