Health in the corporate sector

Many women work for the corporate world today. And the life style here is different. It generally involves, long working hours, smartphones and laptops, working
on vacations, late nights, competition and stress, sedentary lifestyle and no exercise. How do you balance your health in such a hectic routine? Difficult. And hence lifestyle diseases come into picture—high blood pressure, diabetes, breathing difficulties, backaches, headaches, asthma-- the list is endless.

Most of us get so busy in the day-to-day lives of work, children, household chores that physical and mental fitness is taken for granted. Breakfast is more often than not—skipped or ignored and the day goes through with quick bites of fast-foods and ends with a late and heavy dinner. It is as if we have reversed our eating tendencies!!

Most companies however are seeing the benefits of promoting health. A healthy employee not only brings freshness and zest to the company which is infectious but also works more effortlessly! There is more productivity and decreased incidences of illness.
Companies also offer club memberships or have a gym at work!

To maintain a healthy lifestyle while working is not easy. But not too far-fetched either. It is just a matter of taking some things in your hands and planning in advance.

Plan your breakfast the previous night. To cook a simple pohe or upma hardly takes 5-10 minutes!! Skipping a breakfast means your body and mind does not get fuel after a night’s rest—making you feel lethargic and puts stress on your body to over work; it also makes you feel hungry throughout the day and you end up eating more than needed. A good breakfast will ensure that you wake up and kick-start your day with fresh energy!!

Preferably take lunch box or if not possible, order home-made tiffin which has low oil content. Avoid delivered lunches like pizzas, burgers or fries and noodles. These have the wrong kind of fat. And mostly give empty calories.

Try cooking your own dinner or arrange for a maid to do at home. Have it early. Somewhere between 6.30 and 8 is a good time. Anything after 8pm is very late. If you work late, make sure you carry a lunch-box or order a healthy meal.

Remember to take lunch and dinner and inbetween snack breaks. Have fruits or healthy snacks. Staying hungry for a long time does not help you to remain healthy.
De-stress, meditate, quit smoking, schedule mobile-free vacations and take out time to exercise. It need not mean going to the gym but even a 20-minute walk on the road or garden!

These go a long way to keep you healthy and fit.
