The myths’ associated with diets always recommends a fully vegetarian diet to reduce one’s weight. Rarely there is any evidence presented that says Non-vegetarian diets can help weight reduction.
Researchers all over the world are battling the healthy diet problem. It is observed that amongst the young generation over 15% are overweight and are experimenting with diet fads. Recommending one diet over the other, however, is unsafe. It is widely known that fully vegetarian diet followers gain a slimmer look.
Every time one considers using a non-vegetarian diet the negative effects of high salts and fat deposits in meats are pointed out. Also, the fiber intake that is essential to burn the body fats is available in vegetables but not in non-vegetarian foods.
Many of the younger generations are blindly following vegetarian diets of salads and fruits in order to reduce weight. But it is found that these vegetarian diets lack the essential proteins, vitamins such as B12 which add strength to the muscles and bones and give a healthier life to these younger people.
Also it is observed that persons who have been culturally brought up on non-vegetarian foods are unable to find comfort in shifting to a solely vegetarian diet. It causes them irritability and anger due to the lack of comfort found in vegetarian only food. They keep craving for their favourite meats and direct their irritations on the immediate family members. No diet is worth losing a relationship with the family members.
Negative aspects of Non-vegetarian diets:
Those who follow only non- vegetarian diet have more than 35% risk of gaining high blood pressure, diabetes or heart disease because the food reduces metabolism of the body and slows down the digestion process. It is also unable to break down the complex saturated fats found in non- vegetarian foods. Health risks are certainly increased due to meats.
On the other hand those who follow complete vegetarian diet show a lesser BMI (Body Mass Index).
Also, it must be noted that it is kinder to spare the animals and move to a vegetarian diet completely to lose weight.
Now days, it is found that meats also have a lot more pesticides sprayed on and really lose their dietary value. It is a known fact that ‘red meats’ make the person gain weight.
Only fish or a chicken diet offers weight loss benefits. Even then they must be eaten boiled and lean, not fried which it less appetizing and loses much of the taste craving. Non-vegetarian food also has to be supplemented with green vegetables to gain enough fiber to break down the non-veg. cholesterol build – up.
The bacterial accumulation in the teeth of a non-vegetarian person is much higher than a person eating only vegetables.
Benefits of a vegetarian diet:
Although a low-calorie diet of vegetables and fruits is always the fastest way to lose weight, it is recommended to eat them with less oils, dressings or garnishes. The oils used to cook delicious vegetarian noodles for example will have higher calories than eating plain boiled fish.
So when making a choice of food one must be aware that any type of food should be eaten in moderation, with less frying or oiliness.
