Having always been fascinated with "yoga", I wished I could learn it at some stage of my life. Never did I think, not in my wildest dreams, that my tryst with yoga will take place in Taipei, the capital of one of the worlds most dynamic export oriented economies, Taiwan.

Having accompanied my husband on an working trip to Taipei, my husband suggested my joining yoga classes, to keep myself busy. I mumbled, "sounds interesting."

Yoga seems to be popular the world over. In India its popularity has been constant, but it is in the of the world, that it is in fashion now! Whether its east or west you will find yoga classes running successfully throughout world with an ever increasing list of students.

The Yoga class in Taipei, was located at Chung Hsio Road. I frankly didn't even expect a crowd at the class, and thought I could sail in. The Yoga teacher, was a graceful Taiwanese lady, who knew a little English. I heaved a sigh of relief, since English is literally a "foreign" language in Taiwan.

I was really astonished to know how popular her classes were. She was running eight sessions a day of one hour each with around 40 students in a big hall, all women. They ranged from 14 to 60 years. Mrs Chau Hen has been teaching for over a year and a half, and she receives new students in her class, everyday.

I too joined in, and it turned out to be a memorable experience for me. Even though the classes were carried out in Chinese, I followed all the actions and instructions properly and was able to learn different asanas. Half an hour was given to a particular asanas , which I later discovered, through the internet, were steps to surya namaskar, considered very beneficial for females if done regularly. This was followed by different asanas which were tough for the overweight women.

Most of the ladies in Taiwan I observed, appeared slim and trim. So why did they choose Yoga? Yoga classes are meant to be a mode of relaxation after a day of stressful work for the working women. With time, I learnt the asanas well, and now I do them at home, on my own.

It is believed that the path of Yoga, progressively leads one to explore within and allows one to experience the radiance of the true self. At the same time it allows the inner radiance to shine through one's individuality.

I truly benefitted from Yoga, for I got rid of my lower back pain. Yes, there is also a sense of positive feeling within. I would like to share a thought with all the women of my country: learn yoga at any stage of your life, as the benefits are tremendous. If you want to lead a fulfilling life with confidence and good health, then trust me my friends, Yoga can help you a lot.
So what you are waiting for? Get up and enroll yourself at the nearest Yoga class. Best of luck!
