It`s time we realise that every woman needs her own personal space for relaxation - and this is not only to release us from the stress cycle but also to restore us so that we can reassume our responsibilties calmly and with deepened insight. You have to spend at least half an hour on yourself if you want to recharge your batteries before you get going again. If you can spare more time, take it and emerge a refreshed and revitalised person. We give you here some tips on how to get energy.

  • Begin by moving your body. Start to exercise regularly as this is a tried and tested way of getting rid of stress. Did you know that exercise releases endorphins that are nature`s own pain relievers and which will go a long way to keep your mood upbeat? Adrenalin builds up when you are under stress and this is removed even when you warm up your tired muscles. So, whether you are at home or in your office follow these simple methods of relaxing your tensed up muscles and see the difference it makes.
  • Begin by keeping your body loose. Just let your chin fall onto your collarbone.
  • Done? Now breathe in through your nose while pulling back your head all the while pulling in your tummy. Slowly breathe out. Tilt your head to the right as you straighten your spine.
  • Look in front even as you tilt your head. Now slowly straighten your head till it returns to the centre and then tilt it to the left. Shrug your shoulders a couple of times and bring your head back to normal position.
  • The power of the mind is immense. Use it at the end of a hard day to picture the stress coming out in liquefied form through every pore of your body. Imagine that with every step you take, you are leaving a coloured imprint with your foot. The further you walk away from your place of work or your house, the fainter the steps become until all the stress has disappeared.
  • A massage can work wonders on the tired body and also the tired mind. Have an aromatherapy oil massage. Breathe in the appropriate essential oils that are being worked into your body. The smell of the oils sends a message to the brain and this has an amazing effect on our emotional state, thereby giving you physical and mental relief. A few drops of an essential oil added to any vegetable oil such as almond oil will result in the creation of your own massage oil.
  • Learn the technique of breathing properly. Shallow breathing deprives you of adequate oxygen and this in turn will cause anxiety symptoms to appear. Stress and tension accumulate and will give rise to health problems. Again use your mind to imagine that you are taking a deep breath right from the soles of your feet to the top of your head. As you exhale, imagine that the breath is descending slowly from you head back to your feet. Just this breathing exercise will serve as an immediate antidote to the mounting stress levels.
  • Even sound can cause stress levels to rise. The sudden ringing of the alarm on your clock just when you are in deep sleep, or the crying of your baby at some unearthly hour or even any unusual noise can cause stress. The remedy? Lie down with knees slightly bent. Put on some soothing music and imagine the notes washing down your entire body. Feel your stress being washed away from your tired, exhausted body with the soft gentle notes.
  • Laughter is another powerful tool that can help to eliminate stress. A hearty laugh causes the endorphins to be released and this makes us feel good. Maybe you could join a `Laughter club` and laugh away your stress.
  • If you are a creative person, take it that you are already equipped to deal with stress. Whether you are painting, knitting, working on an embroidery pattern or even if you are gardening, you will find that the concentration on the job at hand and the trance-like state that you are in when you indulge in creating something will serve to clear your mind of unwanted stress. If your hobby is gardening, your being in fresh air while you are gardening will be an additional stress buster.
