It's time to get fruity, folks! It could well be the way to save your eyesight in later years. Recent studies have proved that consuming fruits regularly could help fight off macular degeneration - which is a leading cause of blindness in the older generation.

People who consumed three or more helping of fruits every day are less likely to develop age related macular degeneration. Their risk had decreased by 36%.

This particular research, however, makes no mention of the yellow and orange fruits, which are rich in carotenoids - and were earlier much lauded for their ability to preserve vision.

It's strange - but the more modern the world becomes - the more the medical research points out to a basic, wholesome lifestyle to stay healthy. Pills and treatment can never replace the goodness of fruits, vegetables, fibre and milk. So why not adopt a fruitful way to health? It's a good way to keep down the medical bills!

Preventing or even retarding age related diseases could make a big difference to the quality of life in senior citizens. It helps keep them more independent and emotionally secure - besides preserving their zest for living. Hence the emphasis on trying to tackle Alzheimer's Disease, osteoporosis, macular degeneration, arthritis - is gaining ground every day.

The medical world is unanimous in their opinion that prevention is better than cure. Keep diseases at bay rather than try to cure them. All one needs to do is to have a healthy, active lifestyle - which comprises of well-balanced meals, regular exercise, adequate sleep and moderate living. And good health follows consequentially.
