Cultivate healthy habits
All of us want to live a full life, look young, healthy and fresh and have the energy to attend to our needs till our last breath. This need not be just wishful thinking if only we remember that all it takes is a little care and a few healthy habits that we should follow all our lives.
- Excessive fat intake leads to addition of empty calories that only harm our body. Calories from fat should be under 30% for good health.
- Increase the fibre content in you meals. This means more nutrition especially if you include complex carbs like whole grains and fresh fruits in your daily intake.
- Are you drinking enough water? I know this is an oft repeated advice - especially the bit about a minimum of eight glasses a day - but it does go a long way in getting rid of toxins even while it aids in digestion.
- Exercise, exercise, exercise. This cannot be repeated enough. No time for a structured exercise? No problem! Just go for a brisk daily walk to strengthen those bones.
- Did you know that intake of refined carbs will lead your emotions on a roller coaster ride? Any high glycemic foodstuff is actually a nutritional disaster as it will only lead you a merry dance between high energy and bouts of fatigue. You will end up depressed and emotionally spent.
- If the salt content in your daily diet is high, rest assured that it will lead to complications of high blood pressure and water retention.
- If you take supplements, see to it that they are of good quality that will help to prevent diseases and help in the slowing down of ageing.
- Try and get rid of all negative habits like smoking, coffee addiction or alcohol.
- Being overweight leaves you open to umpteen complications. Try and maintain an optimum weight instead of sudden dieting followed by bingeing which will only strain your body.
- Prone to stress? Do what it takes to destress yourself and think yourself to happiness. Remember, you are just about as happy as you make your mind up to be.
