How water starved are you? Is the situation getting worse through the year? Well then, maybe its just time to get more savvy about water consumption.
Instead of pouring used water down the drain, maybe you can redirect for better use.
Don't send the wash water down the drain. Pipe it out to the garden instead. This is called grey water. It has no nasty bacteria.
It can be recycled for different uses. It helps save water and gives you the luxury of a small garden.
All you need to do is to fix a plastic pipe from the washing machine outlet into a few buckets, or directly into your garden.
Water that you use to wash your clothes can be used to:
- Wash your car
- Wash your yard
- Water the plants
- Clean the bathroom
- Mop the staircase
The water used for the last rinse while washing your clothes, can be conserved and used to soak clothes in for the next wash.
Seat babies and young children in a large tub of water for a bath. This water can be used for other cleaning purposes.
When it starts raining, put a few large buckets out of doors where they will catch a lot of rain. Use this water for cleaning purposes too.
Use less water for each and every activity. Each time you use water, figure out what it can be used for again.
