Lifestyle Respiratory Diseases and their Causes

Our environment impacts our well-being and that is why environmentalists keep researching on possible threats and measures that should be taken to keep it safe. Lifestyle respiratory diseases occur due to our interaction with the environment and some possible causes are:
  • The overgrowing pollution due to a vast increase in the number of industries and automobiles is the primary cause of increasing lifestyle respiratory diseases. The quality of air that we breathe today is full of pollutants, smoke, suspended particles coming out from factory exhaust, etc that haa raised the probability of people getting infected.
  • Respiratory diseases have increased at a fast rate during the last decade as more people have started smoking and chewing tobacco. These two hazardous lifestyle habits have led to a sudden increase in the number of people suffering from respiratory diseases as inhaled tobacco in any form affects the lungs badly.
  • The children at present have a weaker immune system as compared to our ancestors as they grow up with less infection exposure as compared to older generations. The sensitive immune system of people at present makes them more prone to respiratory diseases.
  • There is a growing tradition to stay more inside that have made us more prone to indoor allergens such as molds and dust resulting in respiratory diseases.
  • Certain irritants present in the air that we breathe result in acute attacks. These irritants can trigger inflammatory infections resulting in severe respiratory disorders.
  • Medical experts have suggested that inadequate exercise routines and bad dietary habits have resulted in more obese people and obesity is found to have some relation with respiratory disorders.
  • Stress and exertion are some triggers of respiratory disorders.
  • A good hygiene should be followed to prevent respiratory diseases. Avoiding some common hygiene routines such as not washing hands after using toilet and before eating food, sneezing and coughing without covering the mouth, etc are some possible causes of respiratory diseases.
  • Work environment may also result in respiratory diseases such as workers in coal mines and asbestos factory are more prone to respiratory diseases.
Symptoms:
Some common signs and symptoms of lifestyle respiratory diseases that alarm you to pay a visit to your doctor are cough, difficulty in breathing, overproduction of mucus, wheezing and chest pain, shortness of breath while climbing stairs, frequent headaches, fatigue, etc. It is advisable to visit your physician if the symptoms lasts for few weeks.

As respiratory diseases can present difficulties in your daily life, you should try to prevent them for a healthy living by following a good lifestyle.
