The World Health Organization or in short WHO is a specialized agency of the United Nations organization, acting as a coordinating authority on public health all over the world. Founded in the year 1948 on 7th April and with headquarter in Geneva, Switzerland, WHO inherited the mandate and resources of its predecessor, the Health Organization, which had been an agency of the League of Nations. One of the Popular Health Organizations for Healthy Aging, according to WHO’s constitution, there main objective is “the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health”.
The main task of WHO is to combat disease, of people of all ages all over the world and especially of elder people with some common infectious diseases and to promote the general health of these people of the world. One of the original agencies of the United Nations WHO holds various campaigns and programs on Healthy Aging and the role of WHO in healthy aging. For example it boosts the consumption of fruits and vegetables worldwide and discourages tobacco consumption. Besides WHO also stresses on exercise specially how walking daily is good for the aged people, as it keeps their bones strong, heart beating well and blood flow smooth.
With 193 Member States, including all UN Member States, and 2 non-UN-members, Niue and the Cook Islands, WHO with one of its programs ‘Active Aging’ is highlighting the issue with active aging which includes promoting health lifestyles, reducing health risks and increasing their quality of life. Different Facts About Aging are discussed in the various journals and magazines that WHO bring out, so that all the aged people all over the world know what should be done and what not to stay feet till their last day of life.
