Aging refers to the transformation in any organism as time passes by. It encompasses complex processes related to physical, social and psychological changes that occur over time. There are a few forms of aging that develop as time goes by, whereas some gradually decay. Researches are carried out worldwide to bring out the most significant facts about aging. These frontier researches often prove that even an old individual can engage in productive social, physical, mental and cultural activities spontaneously. In biological studies, many groundbreaking theories have evolved to substantiate the claims made about elderly Medicare from time to time.

Several internal and external agents or factors play a crucial role in determining the mental age of an individual, which may totally differ from the chronological age. Old age homes are particularly relevant in the context of aging and sustaining longevity in the older generations of the society. With medicinal sciences developing rapidly in the 21st century, average life expectancy has also sprung up remarkably. Old age homes provide care for the increasing number of old people worldwide.

Old age homes not just provide a comfortable shelter for those who have crossed the best days of life. They also look after the physical and psychological changes old age brings along. There is a misconception that old age heralds senility and diseases. This is an extremely generic interpretation that hardly makes sense. Diseases can occur at any stage of human life and old age is not to be blamed alone for physical complications. Many homes worldwide engage in extensive campaigning with regards to the dependency factor coming along with old age. Many old people are compelled to go to old age homes after being literally thrown out of their own places. This is a sad truth that we still live with. However, the global scenario is changing to positive directions as more and more voluntary organizations are coming forward with selfless aids for the overall welfare the older communities.
