The Indian teenagers today have a lot of things happening in their lives. Gone are the days when schoolwork ruled their lives. Or casual games at home and at school.
Teens today seem to have come a long way. Social symbols and luxuries are accepted and integrated into in their lives.
The 'scrape and save generation' they're not. Conservation is out, confidence is in. As is a flamboyant lifestyle.
It isn't just the changing mindset of the parents that is influencing them. Peer pressure plays a huge part in this too. You need to impress to get accepted. To belong.
Expensive eateries, brand names, the best of sports facilities and their own mode of transport. These are the very basics they seem to be looking for. Holidays abroad and their own credit cards aren't too uncommon either.
And why not? Why should we deny ourselves a good life, they want to know.
They seem to have little or no qualms about spending large sums of money. Most of them, irrespective of their gender or place in society, seem confident enough to be able to earn well and support their spending habits.
Is this a healthy trend? Maybe not. But give these young devils their due - they're ready to work hard in order to play hard.
Most of them study hard enough to get to where they want to go. Let's just hope they are all going in the right direction.
