More and more young people are turning towards natural fabrics when it comes to buying clothes. Young fashionistas and style divas are choosing fabrics made from soy, bamboo and hemp, which are biodegradable and made without chemical additives such as petroleum, and pesticides or insecticides. Clothes made from the natural fabrics have been called eco-couture.

Eco-Couture
Sophisticated fashion companies are opting for the eco friendly fashion since the past decade.Branded clothing jumped on the band wagon a few years ago. Brands like Gap, Esprit etc offer environmentally friendly attire, using organic cotton. Some companies use bamboo, hemp and soy as well. In fact, wedding dresses made of hemp-silk are quite popular with the young and aware.

Right Innerwear can save the planet…
Innerwear too is contributing its mite towards going green! There are Bamboo lines and Soy comfort lines of lingerie and men’s underwear. These are great for summer wear since the fabric absorbs moisture. Heard of the â€"Solar Power Bra” by Triumph? It’s known to be environment friendly and green in colour. It features a solar panel, worn around the stomach. Other lingerie makers are following suit with green-themed undergarments. One has gone all out and come out with a bra that can be used as a recyclable shopping bag!

Bag-gars can be choosers!
The Italian fashion house Gucci prides itself for having produced a collection of clutch handbags in bamboo. Recently a Mumbai store launched its collection of eco-friendly clutch bags, made hemp, banana fibre and vetiver. The bags use cotton lining inside and get their colour from vegetable dyes. Canvas totes are hot these days: they are fashionable, reusable and an inexpensive eco-friendly solution!

By becoming eco-friendly, you can lead the way in adopting responsible sustainable practices. This trend is a clear indication that the young, who are fashion savvy, are also responsible and environment conscious. Asking for eco-friendly fabrics could be your way of saying you care!
