You dont have to be grandma only when youre 60. Bake like one and theyll love you all the same.

Beignets

Follow your favourite biscuit recipe. Then roll out dough and cut in squares. In a skillet, add vegetable oil and heat. Fry dough till it is golden brown and cooked through. Drain beignets well on paper towels. Cover with powdered sugar and serve immediately. Enjoy with a cup of coffee.

Thumbprint cookies

Ingredients:

1 cup butter or margarine

3/4 cup sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla

1 tsp almond extract

2 1/2 cups water (a little more if batter seems too thin)

finely chopped nuts, optional

jam or jelly

Method:

1. Beat butter with an electric mixer at medium speed until creamy. 2. Add sugar and the next three ingredients, beating well. 3. Chill dough for two to four hours. 4. Roll dough into small balls, then roll in the chopped nuts if using; place on lightly greased cookie sheets. 5. Make an indention in the middle of each cookie and fill with jam or jelly. 6. Bake at 300 degrees F for about 30 to 35 minutes.

Peanut butter biscotti

Ingredients:

2 3/4 cups flour

1 3/4 cups sugar

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

3 eggs - beaten

1/3 cup peanut butter

1/4 cup water

1 1/4 cups roasted peanuts - unsalted

Method:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 2. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl. 3. In a separate bowl, lightly beat together eggs, peanut butter, and water. 4. Add to flour mixture and mix until ingredients are incorporated (a little more water, a teaspoon at a time, can be added if mixture is too dry to make a smooth dough). 5. Stir in peanuts. 6. Divide the dough into two portions, and form each into a log approximately three inches in diameter. 7. Place the logs on the cookie sheet about three to four inches apart and flatten them slightly with the palm of your hand. 8. Bake in preheated oven until light brown (about 40 minutes). 9. Take out of the oven. Turn the oven down to 300 degrees. 10. Let logs cool for ten minutes, then cut into 3/4-inch thick bars. 11. Place bars, cut side down, back on the cookie sheet and bake until crisp, about 20 minutes.

Coconut balls

Ingredients:

1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk

1 1/2 cups grated coconut

1 egg white

1 teaspoon vanilla

Method:

1. Mix milk and coconut. 2. Beat egg white until stiff; stir into milk and coconut mixture with vanilla. 3. Mix well. Shape into balls and bake on a greased baking sheet at 375 degrees F until lightly browned. 4. Remove from pan while hot.
