Here are a few tips that you could follow instead of looking for another job and perhaps landing up with another bad boss!

Handling the Angry Boss

  • The boss is perhaps so caught up in her work that she doesn’t know she is being rude.
  • Perhaps your boss is so overwhelmed by her own job responsibilities that she doesn’t know how to guide you and is therefore irritated.
  • Perhaps she has been saddled with too many responsibilities.
  • Don’t be afraid to talk to your boss. Tell her that you could probably do a better job if you had adequate support and you would be able to achieve your targets faster.
  • Remember to have this talk when the two of you are alone and never over the phone.
  • Don’t tell your boss that she shouts and raves or rants. Talk to her about the impact of her behaviour on you. That is the better way of putting it. Say something like, “I feel very insecure when you don’t seem to have the time to guide me or listen to me.”
  • Seek a mentor in the organisation who can help you in the initial few months.
  • Normally this works. When two people of different temperaments begin to work together, there are a lot of clashes initially. Don’t let it deter you. Go about your way, politely but firmly. Don’t avoid conflict. This way, you will get treated better.
