Baking is fun - cookies, cakes and so many other finger-licking yummy stuff…. Baking a batch of these need not be a grueling task at all! Here are some pointers for 'clever baking'!

Anytime Cookies - Baking TipsNothing quite like your favourite homemade cookies, is there? But then do you cringe from all the effort that has to go in to bake a batch of them? Here is some good news for you - did you know that most cookie dough could last a month or more in the freezer? Yes it can! So, the next time you whip up a batch, make extra and place the dough in airtight containers in the freezer. When you are ready for cookies, take out the dough and bake as directed. All you have to do is to add a minute or two to the baking time.

Hard Brown Sugar - This is something that happens all the time! We get some brown sugar (very often, a lot more than we need for one recipe) and store the leftovers after baking only to find that it has hardened. When you do find it some time later, you find it is hard as a rock! Now what do you do? Don't despair - softening brown sugar is a simple task. Sprinkle the sugar lightly with water and heat in a shallow pan in an oven. Once it is soft, crumble it with a fork. To keep your brown sugar soft, store it in airtight containers in the refrigerator or freezer.

Test the soda - Tell me something - is your baking soda active? Do you know that most disasters in baking happen because your soda is …er… dead? But then how can you tell, you ask. Simple, actually. Baking soda can become inactive and effect your recipes. To test your baking soda, all you have to do is to combine 1/4 teaspoon with 2 teaspoons vinegar. If the mixture bubbles, your baking soda is active.
