The cakes have been lovingly and painstakingly made. Now how do you store these precious cakes? Here are a few tips on how to store and use baked items.

  • Fruitcakes stay fresh for long. For storing a large fruitcake, cut the cake into halves. When cutting into slices, start slicing from the inside of the cake. Once you have sliced both the halves, piece them together. Now you can store the cake in an airtight container. This way it won't get messy when you cut the cake for serving.

  • Always freeze a very large cake before storing it. Cut into slices. In between the slices, you can place a butter paper or greased paper to avoid smudging. When you want to serve, remove the slice and put back the rest into the freezer.

  • In case bits of cakes are left in the container, don't worry. These crumbs can be spread over ice creams and desserts.

  • Sometimes buns and muffins become hard. We tend to throw them away. Well these can be made into a tasty dessert. Place the muffins or buns in a baking dish. Now take ½ a cup of milk and pour it into the dish. Heat the buns/muffins for 8 to 10 minutes in the oven. Now you have the bakes all refreshed.

  • You can also try an alternative. Place the left over bun pieces and put them in a baking dish. Pour margarine or butter (1 tbs.), add a little icing sugar and warm it in the oven for 10 minutes.

  • For storing a cake with intricate icing, place the cake on the lid of the cake tin. Slice the cake and then store in the freezer.

We are sure these tips will prove useful to you. Do store the left over cakes to relish them later.
