Mithi Mathri is a Punjabi cuisine that is made on the occasion of Karva Chauth, the festival in which women undertake a fast for the longevity and well-being of their husband.

Ingredients:

Maida : 1 kg

Ghee : 150 g

Sugar : 500g

Cooking oil : 1 litre

Water : 500ml

Preparation:

Preparation of sugar syrup:

Pour water in a pan and heat. Add the sugar to it until it dissolves completely in the water. Prepare a sugar syrup of medium consistency.

Preparation of the main dish:

Mix maida and ghee together into a homogenous mixture. Add the sugar syrup to the mixture and knead it into a smooth dough. Divide the entire mass into dough pieces of equal sizes. Make mathris out of each either by flattening it with your hand or by rolling it out with a rolling pin.

Heat cooking oil in a frying pan. Fry mathris in it on a slow or medium fire till light brown in colour. Serve hot or cold.
