Brownies

Making brownies? Brownies made with more eggs will produce a cake-like consistency while those made with a smaller number of eggs will be more thick and sticky.

Desserts

Go low cal with deserts when you entertain. Dump the cream and sugar and stuff. Opt for a fresh fruit salad. Slice a few fruits into a bowl and pour some fruit juice over them. Garnish with nuts.

Juices

Juices are the best alternatives to cooking vegetables. When veggies are cooked, they lose some of their nutrients. But salads and juices help you consume the vitamins in a wholesome form.

Potato saviour

Oh oh, guests over for dinner and there's too much salt in the curry! Just add a peeled raw potato or two into the dish and simmer for a while. The potatoes will soak up the extra salt.

Going green

Steam your greens with their stalks. Save the water and make it into a nutritious soup stock. It makes your soup more nutritious.

Pudding 'n' pie

Piecrusts are a little dicey. They don't come out too well. The secret to success lies in using ice-cold water and mixing the dough very quickly. The longer you handle it, the tougher the pie will be. Minimum handling makes for a tender crust.

De smell

You don't want your home to smell of food as your guests arrive, do you? The easy way to go about it is to pour some vinegar into a bowl and place it next to your stove. As you cook, the vinegar will absorb all the odours. Your house will smell fresh when it's time to entertain.
