History of New Year Resolution
The history of New Year Resolution dates back to 153 B.C. where the two-faced Janus, a mythical king of early Rome was seated at the head of a calendar. This mythological figure could look back on past events and forward to the future. He became the symbol of resolutions. Many Romans asked for forgiveness from their enemies and also exchanged gifts on the commencement of New Year. Romans even named the first month of the year after Janus. It is a very common tradition to take a resolution at New Year and fulfill it in the approaching year. In fact, historical background of New Year resolution goes back to early Babylonians. They believed that what a person does on the first day of the New Year will affect him or her throughout the year.Top New Year Resolutions

How to make a New Year Resolution
- Be practical while planning attainable goals. Acquiring a lottery prize, for instance, is beyond your grapple.
- Express your resolutions in definite idioms. Go for "I want to work out regularly" or "I will reduce on my television watching rather than "I don't want to be lazy,"
- Split big objectives into smaller ones. For example, I pledge to reduce my calorie intake and loose weight by deciding to get the membership of a gym and improving my eating and drinking habits.
- Discover substitutes to the habit that you desire to modify, and make this an element of your resolution plan. If you want to stop smoking but it is fagging which unwinds you the most then search for other alternatives which are available to you.
- At last, aspire for objects that are really significant to you. Do not consider things which you should be doing or what others expect you to do.
How to stick to your New Year Resolution
- Identify your objectives clearly. Say for instance, Lose Weight" is an excellent objective, but it is too ambiguous. So attempt something more explicit like "Reduce 30 pounds by the end of this year and sustain the slimmer frame for years to come" or "Reduce 2 pounds a week on average".
- List down the guidelines you would like to follow to attain your goals. For instance, if you were trying to quit smoking your first objective should be, "Switch to lights" or "schedule an appointment with the doctor". The whole idea behind charting out a plan is to select something which you can give a yes to like "Yes, I did this." or a "No, I didn't do this." Give a feedback on the deadline day.
- Fix deadlines for the accomplishment of each and every resolution. Organize them in your planner. This is the simplest way through which you can stay committed to your objectives as they become a part of everyday life and not a theoretical idea.
- Summarize the progress of the goals at regular gaps to analyze your progress. If any area needs extra concentration then you will have to amend your chart to dedicate more time to that particular area.
- Most of us make New Year Resolutions, but how many of us do really succeed in maintaining it? Various surveys have revealed that 25% of the resolutions are abandoned in the first fifteen weeks itself. Hence, the most important element of any resolution is determined 'goal'. As is also remarked by Abraham Lincoln, "Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other one thing".
