Ritu is quite a popular name, for she has clothed the Indian beauties participating in the international events. She was aware that it is easy to achieve international recognition as an ethnic designer. But she wanted to be a cosmopolitan mainstream designer who can attract every woman.
Basically an artist and a person for whom being well dressed was of great importance, she quite naturally fell into the slot. She started designing her own clothes due to the unavailability of designer wear. And then for her friends! The rest is history.
A graduate from Delhi University (1987), she realised that formal training has its advantage. For there`s a vast chasm between designing on paper and successfully producing a creation. So, it was NIFT for her too. She enrolled in 1988, and was among the first batch of 25 students chosen from a large number of applicants countrywide. She launched the graduate collection, `Lavanya` in December 1990. And then success became her middle name.
Her style:
Scintillating designs, quintessential zardosi and eclectic play of vibrancy are a part of her repertoire. She has an ability to adopt the latest trend and yet, her clothes have a timeless elegance about them.
