You love using perfume, don't you? It makes you feel seductive; it makes you feel feminine - in short it makes you feel the complete woman. It does a lot to your confidence.
Actually perfumes do a lot more to you - and believe me - it isn't all pleasant. There is another side to the fragrance that seduces - it also hurts - and hurts badly. What are we talking about? The chemicals used in perfumes, of course. Let's just say they are not very user friendly. Let's take a look at some of the adverse effects of perfume.
Skin problems are frequently due to the side effects of perfume. Some skins may become more sensitive and become more prone to rashes and allergies. In rare cases - there could be de-pigmentation of the skin.
Fragrance chemicals cause and aggravate lung disease. A very large percentage of asthmatics have attacks that are triggered by perfumes.
Most frighteningly - perfumes are known to affect the brain as well. Research has proved that there is a close connection between memory and scent. Hence it is an acknowledged fact that chemical fragrances can cross the blood brain barrier - and cause neurotoxicity which affects the brain tissue.
Perfumes are also known to cause instant headaches, dizziness, nausea and mood swings.
Sinus, watery eyes, inability to focus mentally etc. are the more common side effects of perfumes.
Fragrant chemicals can be absorbed by the skin and introduced into the blood stream. They can travel through out the body. Perfumes thus have the potency to affect any part of the body that is sensitive to the chemicals.
The next time you want to go overboard with your favourite perfume - think a minute. Does the scent make sense?
