Actually, identifying your body shape is a fairly easy process. There are a few common types prevalent and most people fall into one of these easily recognisable shapes. In fact, studying your body will give you the ability to dress in a flattering manner and help you in picking up tips and techniques that can enhance your overall appearance.
So, shall we begin with the ideal figure - the one we all strive to achieve at least for once in our lifetime? It is of course, the hourglass figure and it is probably, the most sought after shape. Simply put, it is the most proportionate figure and quite the dream figure. The body here is broad on top, followed by a narrow waist which again broadens at the hips.
Contrasting sharply is the next shape a few people identify with - the rectangular form. This is fairly simple to recognise - it is just like a rectangle - and is basically straight up and down. In other words, there is no definition at the waistline.
Following the geometrical patterns, we have next the two triangular shapes.
The first of these is small at the top end, and grows in width towards the hips - it is like a regular triangle. As a contrast, we also have the second type, the inverted triangle. Just flip the regular triangle upside down and presto! you have the inverted triangle. Here, the heaviest part of the body is at the top.
Have you examined an egg closely? You will notice that is oval in shape with two narrow ends. The entire body weight is distributed only in the centre. People with this body shape can be either top or bottom heavy with the weight distribution beginning at the waist level and either going up or down.
These then, are the most common body shapes and, identifying your type can help you choose your clothes with care, highlighting your plus points and underplaying your minuses. Have you come across any other type and seen how well the person handles her body? If so, do write in with your observations and share your thoughts with the growing Sitagita community. Begin a discussion on how you can work towards that ideal body, or on how you can maximise what you have and you will find yourself in the thick of a movement! It is after all, a topic close to many a woman's heart!
