Handling kids can be pesky at times, specially when we want them to learn the fundamentals of discipline. To make your kids disciplined is not at all easy but some common pitfalls that parents follow and ways to avoid them for a better and disciplined upbringing of their children are listed below:

Inconsistency in behavior: If you make some rules for your kids, stick to them under all circumstances. Don't break or make rules as per your wish. Your kids will follow the rules only if you follow them. If you break any rule just for your own convenience, your kids will also take things lightly, and they will behave in the same manner. Let your kids know what you will be going to do if they do something wrong. Don't overlook their mistakes as they will repeat them if you don't react today. Show them the consequences in case they commit any wrong or bad thing.

Don't shout: Losing your temper and shouting on your kids on every wrong act is not the best way to deal with the situation. If you repeat this every time, your kids may answer you in the same tone. As they know that you will shout in every situation, they will not be afraid of your response.

Praising too  much or too little: Praise your kids when they achieve something. Don't be too sweet to them every time. Your fun attitude may make them relaxed, and it would become hard to implement rules for them. A rough attitude towards children may make them feel nostalgic. Appreciate or praise them whenever needed.

Talk to your kids: Effective communication is the best way to prevent any complexities. Talk to your kids and make them understand some basic rules and also that they have to follow those rules, whether they want or not. As they are quite small they will not predict things on their own. You need to make them understand some basic things and the consequences they might face if they do not follow the implemented rules accordingly.

Don't bribe your kids:
Parents often bribe their children to motivate them for finishing a particular task, but it may turn to habit in a short span. If you keep them presenting prizes even to complete some basic tasks such as homework, they will become demanding as time passes by and this habit is really a threat if seen from the realistic view.

Punishment: Punish your kids whenever they commit a mistake. Be fair while sentencing punishments. Say what you mean and don't let your judgment go as a word of mouth only. Respect your statements and do follow them to make your children realize that you follow whatever you say.

Parents may feel bad while punishing their children for simple things but even punishment is as important as appreciation. Following these tips and you will see the changes gradually with time. Parents have to perform various roles while raising their children.
