The Family forms the basic structure in a society, be it western or eastern. Enculturating and socializing children are two of the prime functions of a family, in regard to children. For children a family is a family of orientation and for adults and parents it is a family of procreation. a family can be of three kinds, namely, matrifocal, consanguinal, and conjugal. Affinity, blood kinship and cohabitation are the three primary aspects which are reflected while discussing the Importance of Family. A family performs an array of functions which includes both political functions as well as economical functions. These functions are very important as without these functions, a family cannot work out in the way it is supposed to.
Reproduction is the main function of any society, either socially or in a biological way, or both. A household has to be productive in order to provide sustenance to the members of the family. In recent times, families are formed even without children. Family`s Importance is realized by every member of a family, especially at times when a particular member of the family is away from the family. For every member of a family, the importance of Family is extreme as they can feel rootless and homeless without the support from the other members of the family.
For children, the importance of family lies in the fact that it gives them a sense of belonging and a sense of identity. They are able to understand their place in the society or what religion should they conform to. Family acts as a security for children, especially teenagers. Importance of Family also lies in the fact that families provide comfort and emotional support, nurturing and the warmth of love and tenderness. The basic structure of social support to any member of a particular society is formed by the family. A reciprocal relationship exists between various members of a family. Family is a group where individuals share space within an atmosphere of mutual empathy and love. There should be a feeling in each and every member of a family that he or she is needed and their individual goals and aspirations should get the space to flourish and prosper.
Importance of Family lies in the fact that one can discuss matters with the other members of the family and a solution can come out of such discussions. At times, conflict appears in a family but there is space enough for every member to air his or her opinions and views. In modern days, we have seen that joint families have broken up into nuclear families and a nuclear family consists of a couple and their children. In western countries, nuclear families are the norm but in many eastern countries, joint families still exist. Children receive guidance from the family as to what they should do or what they should not do. The Importance of Family lies in the fact that it determines to a large extent the social roles that the children will perform.
