Ray of hope

In these modern days, we are too worried and stressed about our future that the past is completely forgotten or ignored. Life is a mixture of bitter and better experiences. Reflecting upon these I have learnt that I could solve the mystery of my future in a more practical manner.

Playfulness and carelessness were the bottom line, and I think it was this approach that gave me plenty of courage and confidence in those days.

I remember a time when I was just a girl in school. I happened to meet my father`s friend`s wife (for the first time) who was worried about hosting dinner for a Rotary meeting.

With the idea of improving her mood, I said that my mother does things like this all the time and it is no big deal. I also told her that I could give some ideas and recipes, which will make it easy, and we fell into discussing about the dinner.

I must have got lost in the conversation so much that in the end I heard myself say that I will help her. I didn`t know the basic thing about cooking but still went on that day to help her out.

All the people who had come on that day for the dinner showered me with compliments. My mom was very surprised to learn this, as I neither knew how to make a pizza nor any other dish. It`s amazing what people can achieve with confidence coupled with sheer dumb luck of course.

So, what happened after that? Why was I a bored and depressed housewife not having the same confidence or enthusiasm? "Did it die as I grew older?" or "Was it always there and I was not aware of it?"

I live in a huge apartment complex (150 flats) where we bored housewives joined together to organize a sports meet cum party for the residents.

I was an active member of the organizing committee and what we achieved has been the talk of the town ever since. I personally take credit for collecting funds from my building, conducting the events on the sports day and also the quiz program. I also got a prize as the best cricketer.

I feel like a completely different person now, very much in demand in my neighbourhood. I now realize that a person remains the same, whether she is young or old. One must create the necessary opportunities to bring out the hidden talents and make the most of them for a better life. Find out what interests you the most and pursue it. After all, life is too wonderful to be spent worrying!
