The Road to El Dorado
Elton John is the song maestro of movies. He's now the uncrowned king of stage and cartoon film musicals. Check out both the stage and movie versions of 'The Lion King' and the stage version of 'Aida'. Now, Elton's at it again; composing music for the latest cartoon film to emerge from the Dreamworks stable. The Road to Eldorado sees John in fine fettle and (surprise! surprise!) without long time collaborators, lyricist Bernie Taupin and Tim Rice.
The songs are a heady mix of different styles from ballads to Latin to rock and roll. And of course, there's Elton's versatile voice to lend body to the different styles. Check out the witty 'It's Tough to be a God' (with Randy Newman), the ballad, 'Without Question' and the Latin-tinged flavour of, 'Trust me.'
Rating: Makes for easy listening. But, you'd be better off just listening to the songs as you see the movie rather than going out and buying the music.
