A priceless little gem. Macy Gray weds 70`s funk and soul with hip-hop and RB. Her scratchy vocals lend a je-ne-sais-quois to songs of love, sexuality, God and injustice. The lyrics, written by Gray, need some serious polishing up. "I can`t wait to meetchu" she trills. Ahem, that`s God she`s talking about. And, " I `ve committed murder......and I don`t feel bad about it." Whatever, Macy. But the music is a cool retro-funk that you can chill out to. Red Hot Chilli Peppers guitarist, Arik Marshall helps out on the album. Macy`s got a distinctive voice that comes across with sweet poignancy on her ballads, "Still" and "I Try".All in all, a voice to watch out for. Rating: At the Grammy Awards this year, Rosie O`Donnel gave a free plug to Macy when she asked everyone to go out and buy this album. I suggest you follow Rosie`s advice.
