He`s the soulful lyricist of the Beatles, whose anthemic `Imagine` reflected the peacenik wave that swept over the world in the 70`s. This 1971 album has now been digitally remastered and remixed under the personal supervision of Yoko Ono.
This is a classic album with moods and lyrics that capture the angst of a generation. `Imagine` coincided with the Vietnam War, flower power, Allen Ginsburg`s, "Howl", Abbie Hoffman, LSD, free sex, race wars, civil rights, Muhammad Ali. It was an intensely tumultuous period where the whole world, it seemed, was into self-discovery and self-expression.
`Imagine` is just that. It`s Lennon`s personal odyssey articulated in what must be, amongst the most moving lyrics to ever hit the turntable. The title track and `I Don`t Want to be a soldier mama` are poignant and sweetly melancholic.
Rating: A great album made better by technology. It`s the musical soul of a generation laid bare. Anguish never sounded better.
